Oh shit! That is still going on?? vol.1

Darfur, Sudan: genocide and ethnic cleansing are a stark reality. After WWII and the Jewish hollocaust, the international community stood up as one and said NEVER AGAIN. But today in Sudan, the international community are silent and doing nothing to stop the Jajaweed militia from persecuting the Black African Sudanese.
Somewhere between 70,000-350,000 people have died in this genocide. Now I know what you are asking: how in the hell are you gonna have a range between 280,000 people that have died? Can't we narrow that number down a bit? Well the problem is that the media aren't covering this story so nobody really has any clue. The ethnic cleanising that is taking place is so blatant: at least 2 million people have been displaced from their homes and women are been raped mercilesly as the rebels are using rape as a weapon. And many are dying a slow painful death from starvation. The Sudanese government are complicit in the genocide as they have refused a UN humanitarian chief entry into Darfur or the capital.
Either way it is a saddening tragedy and the media are also complicit for not adequately reporting on whats going on. The UN are complicit for not taking action in Darfur. The developped, industrialized nations of the world (that means you Canada) are complicit for attempting to pass the buck to an underfunded, undertrained and underprepared African Union force. Remember the world community stood up as one and said NEVER AGAIN. That statement applies to Africans as well not just Europeans.

Comments:
Dont froget Rwanda. 1 million killed in a few months. Chopped to pieces with machettes, axes & dull blades... Clinton getting head at the time refused to call it 'genocide' and allowed the unarmed un to lazily 'hang out' for nothin.

I agree we must never forget about Rwanda, although Darfur shows that we clearly didn't learn much from that genocide since Darfur is 'Rwanda in slow motion.' We must also recognize the attempt of many to rebuild that country and heal the deep scars of hatred.
The weird thing about Darfur is that the Bush administration came out and declared Darfur to be a genocide when even the UN would not. But then they didn't do anything about it.

the problem with africa is the fact that our soldiers dont like shooting children. africa is known for its armed children. hard to feel like a warrior when the enemy is only as tall as his ak47... i think this is the honest reason we are not in there stopping this thing. that and the iraq distraction is a valid excuse of "were busy"..

if we dont send in a force of a good 10k soldiers which we should, the un needs to get off its lazy ass or we should stop all funding of the un alltogether *since we are the largest contributor) as they only prove themselves useless.

Agreed, child soldiers are a huge problem in civil conflicts on the African continant.
However Africa is a very diverse place with over 50 different countries in it. It would be a mistake to treat each conflict on the continant as the same. I'm not convinced that the Jajaweed militia are employing child soldiers as much as they have been used in Sierra Leone, DR Congo or Liberia for example.
What need to happen is the international community need to be pro-active about the child soldier epidemic. There needs to be a plan as to how to free them from their warlords and re-integrate them into society. If the UN isn't gonna send in troops, it should at least come up with a plan on how to deal with child soldiers.
